Bill Bateman

Bill Bateman has been teaching and an active computer user since 1986 following a career in advertising as a creative director. The last 10 years he has worked at Ventura County Juvenile Court Schools, a maximum-security facility for minors. While others passed out worksheets, Bateman wrote and implemented both the Technology Plan and the State High School Digital Grant for the three school sites. He also acted as system administrator and technology leader, and was in charge of developing and implementing staff training through his "Cyber Cafı" program.

Currently working towards his MCSE, Bateman is also Webmaster and site designer, as well the author of numerous articles, seminar presentations, and even mysteries. He is frequently observed with a Krispy Kreme donut, tweaking the nose of the arrogant and complacent more often than prudent, though seldom at the same time.

She has worked as a computer mentor, technology trainer, and technology curriculum specialist. As a site administrator technology continued to be a high priority for her, and in 1993 she was key in founding Computer Using Educators' Administrators Special Interest Group, which still serves as a network and resource for school administrators across the country and in Canada.

Prior to establishing her own consulting firm, Susan was a teacher, site administrator, and technology specialist at a county office of education in a career that spanned more than 23 years. She has published articles and software reviews in a variety of education journals during the last 15 years.

Kim Carter is a co-conspirator in the design and implementation of the SchoolTech Expo Conferences and Leadership Institutes for New York City and Chicago. She currently serves as Director of Information Services at Souhegan High School in Amherst, New Hampshire.

Paul is married to educator Debra Sims Fleisher. He is a long-time activist in civic organizations that work for peace and social justice, including the Richmond Peace Education Center and the Virginia Forum. In 1988 he received the Virginia Education Association's Award for Peace and International Relations, and in 1999 he was awarded the Thomas Jefferson Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Natural Science Education.

Carol Holzberg

Carol S. Holzberg, Ph.D., of Shutesbury, Mass., is an anthropologist and computer journalist. She writes for several publications, works as a technology consultant, teaches computer classes to adults and kids, and serves as technology coordinator at three schools in western Massachusetts.

As a technology journalist, she covers the latest and greatest Macintosh and Windows products. As technology coordinator, she plans engaging computer activities to enrich conventional classroom instruction, troubleshoots ornery installations, maintains Macintosh and PC networks, and tinkers with Internet connections (It's a thankless job, but someone has to do it!). She also writes technology grant applications (several of which have received funding!). When she's not tech-coordinating at school or writing magazine articles in the home office, she takes long walks on the country roads of western Massachusetts, reads poetry, bakes fabulous chocolate brownies (recipe available upon request), and copes stoically with the newly foundfreedoms ofan empty nest.

Ilene G. Rosenthal

In addition to being a teacher for a number of years, during which time she designed curriculum and authored textbooks, she also served as General Counsel to the Software Publishers Association (now called the Software and Information Industry Association), and General Counsel to the Government Operations Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.
